And the winner is…Arco! The Eiffel Tower and the Red Square were beaten by this small Trentino town in the bid to host the Climbing World Championships that will be held here from 15 to 24 July 2011. For Italy it is the first time and this is due to the tradition of the Upper Garda locality and the organising ability of the Asd Rock Master, the creator of the event of the same name that can now celebrate its twenty-fifth year with the championship colours.

A new discipline will be introduced in the World Championships in Arco, the team speed. It will also host the first World Championship of Paraclimbing for the disabled. An important showcase that will launch Arco as the capital of international climbing.

Climbing people love not just Arco but also the nearby Lake, although without sailing nor windsurfing. Moreover there are several natural climbing resorts in Torbole too, a few hundred meters from the beach. At 15 minutes cycle far from Riva del Garda, Arco is famous for the high cliff and the medieval castle over there. A true fortified village, with two main towers, trenches under the walls, a mill, cellars and cisterns.

The particular location allows this country to have a warm and breezy microclimate throughout all the year: this is the reason why the area’s orchards are particularly lush and exotic plants in the Arboreto and in his Habsburg villa - another popular tourist destination - bloom even in winter.
