Val di Sole will be the world homeland of mountain biking again in 2011 and on 20 and 21 August will host the final races of the World Cup. All the greatest mountain bike stars will be back here to compete in all three specialties. ‘Cross Country’ is a real cycling marathon through dirty trails and very hard climbs. ‘Downhill’ is a sheer descent, on a track with gradients prohibitive, practiced with special bicycles. In the ‘Four Cross’ race, riders run against each other pushing and taking off over spectacular jumps. These three races are by far the best show the mountain bike sport has to offer in Italy.
Val di Sole, into the territory of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park and Stelvio National Park, is a valley crossing the north-western Trentino, from 730 meters high Malè up to Tonale Pass, not so far from 3500 meters high Presanella Peaks. Marilleva, Folgarida, Vermiglio, Val di Rabbi, the Noce River, Dimaro, Pejo spring ... these are the names that remind you of Val di Sole.
The presence of these two parks has certainly helped keeping this area intact, as this natural balance is considered one of the richest in Italy, from the standpoint of both flora and fauna. Just think of the large number of brown bears have been visiting this valley for several years. That’s why thousands of mountain biking fans use to spend every summer here pedalling and pedalling.
